CL-511:
Use Technology to Support Literacy

Overview
Course Description:
Students today spend more time on the computer than in front of the
television or outside playing in the yard. Times have changed and
so education must change too. Research has shown that students tend
to be more engaged and focused doing school work on a computer than
the “old-fashioned” paper and pencil way. Literacy skills
can be reinforced through the use of technology since it promotes
a flexible learning environment. There are several software applications,
websites and other technology products that can be utilized in lessons
to encourage literacy. This course will guide teachers in integrating
technology into their classroom to support literacy.
Course Goals/Objectives:
Teachers will use technology to:
• Support curriculum
• Create student collaboration opportunities
• Provide feedback and assessment
• Motivate student learning
• Prepare students for the real world
