Effective Web Research: Strategies and Samples

Overview
Course Description:
Are you tired of spending hours searching the web? Have you found
yourself lost in the internet loop on more than one occasion? Then
this course is for you. In this session we compare and contrast the
many types of search engines and their usefulness in your classroom.
Topics covered include: teaching internet literacy, how to analyze
web sites for accuracy, checking facts, choosing the appropriate engine
for your search and more.
Course Goals/Objectives:
- Review of Internet basics: structure, resources, functionality
- Introduction to Internet research (search engines, directories
and their differences)
- Exposure to different types of search tools
- Find good sites in educational directories
According to a recent USA Today study, 94 percent
of online teens use the NET for school research and 71 percent
say it's also the major source of information for school
projects.
