CL-503: Safeguarding Your Students on the Internet
Overview
Course Description:
The Internet connects computers through a global network and allows
information to be shared and accessed by billions of people. There
is a wealth of knowledge to be gained from the Internet; this “international
community” provides various data such as news from around the
world, the latest celebrity gossip, and current medical research.
However, surfing the Internet can also have a downside. Once personal
information is presented online, it is available for other users to
access. This accessibility can become dangerous if the information
ends up in the wrong hands. That is why Internet Safety is very important
for parents, teachers and students. This course will provide tips
on monitoring and tracking Internet usage, blocking and filtering
inappropriate websites, minimizing online exploitation and understanding
the digital language used in chat rooms.
Course Goals/Objectives:
- Explore strategies to reduce online exploitation of students
- Understand the digital language used in chat rooms
- Learn ways to monitor and track Internet usage
- Discover how to block and filter inappropriate websites
