Let's face it -
You're too busy to count licenses!

Software licensing – you know you have to comply but does license counting have your highest priority?  Likely not. But counting software licenses goes beyond staying faithful to your purchase orders.  Amy Konary concludes in her article, “Software Licensing: Keep it Simple,” in the current issue of Upgrade, that administering software licenses is important not only for ensuring compliance but also to “better predict software usage to help plan for future purchases and avoid over-buying.”

Organizations big and small are already asking themselves ‘are we really using the software we purchased?’ As more and more schools embrace accountability, here is where the technology leader and instructional technology budget can contribute. Savvy administrators want to know which software investments are really in use and which are ‘shelfware’ (i.e. not in use). Smart technology leaders also know there are no ‘free lunches’. Just because an application is web-delivered or is freeware, doesn’t mean it adds value, and in today’s environment, if it doesn’t add value, it’s wasting resources.

Q: How can ClassLink solve the dilemma of knowing what software is being used AND save you precious time?

The ClassLink Information Console (CLiC), for use by system administrators, is a flexible and scalable server-based platform management tool expressly developed for the K-12 educational market. Builtin license metering functionality simplifies the complicated task of application usage monitoring.

CLiC can:

  • Meter software licenses
  • Help determine how many licenses you require
  • Limit an application to a determined number of seats
  • Save money – knows how many applications you need and enforces licensing
