2010 Report Indicates AP Status in US − how are we doing?

The College Board recently released its 6th Annual AP Report to the Nation.* It's gratifying to note that over 68% of U.S. high school graduates now enter college.  However, about half of first-year college students take at least one remedial course so it is “not enough simply for secondary schools to help students gain admission.”

As the study examines AP scores and courses in relation to college success, some key findings include:

  • Schools offering initiatives such as virtual learning technology or student incentives saw 65% increases in AP course enrollment
  • An AP exam score of 3 or higher seems to predict a student's success in college
  • Great strides are being made in some states to close achievement gaps for minority and low-income students

Access the entire report below and find out which AP courses are most popular, state-by-state statistics, and specific AP exemplary courses in various subjects.
