WEEHAWKEN, NJ, June 22, 2006 — ClassLink Inc., a leading technology provider for kindergarten through grade 12 classrooms, today announced the winners of the ClassLink College Scholarship Program. The program is open to high school seniors at participating ClassLink schools who are interested in furthering their education at a two or four-year college. Only two such scholarships are given out each year. This year’s winners were selected from a large pool of extremely qualified candidates and hailed from Catskill Central School District (NY) and Locust Valley School District (NY).
On June 16, Emi Tomaszewski from Catskill Central School District, was awarded the first scholarship. Attending the ceremony were numerous Catskill Central School District school officials, and members of ClassLink’s management team. “Emi’s persuasive and thorough essay, many academic and artistic achievements, and outstanding recommendations made her the ideal candidate for the award” remarked Kate Matthews Kelly, V.P. Education at ClassLink. “We are confident she will continue her impressive academic record in college and wish her the best of luck.”
On June 19, the second scholarship was presented to Matthew DeMaria, a student at Locust Valley High School. “Matthew’s essay referenced great thinkers ranging from Einstein to Bill Gates. His extra-curricular activities, athletic record, and many recommendations were a pleasure to review. We’re thrilled to award Matthew with this scholarship,” said Kate Matthews Kelly, V.P. Education at ClassLink.
As an organization, ClassLink is dedicated to partnering with schools to provide Universal Learning Environments. In a Universal Learning EnvironmentTM, students and teachers have reliable, 24/7 access to the technology resources they need to improve student achievement. The ClassLink College Scholarship Program endeavors to recognize those students who have demonstrated academic success while maintaining a well-rounded life outside of their scholarly pursuits. Emi’s and Michael’s applications impressed the members of the judging committee. Both students exhibit a passion for learning, devotion to community service, and aptitude for technology.
Started in 2004. the ClassLink College Scholarship Program is an annual award given to the best and brightest among the ClassLink network of schools. Each year, students are asked to respond to a timely essay topic. This year’s topic asked students to comment on the classic Margaret Mead quote “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.” Scholarship selection was based upon written essay, school record including activities, and recommendations. The $1,000 gift may be applied to tuition, fees, books, room & board, or any other educational expense.
